ALEXANDRIA MILLS, the 18-year old Miss America was crowned the 60th Miss World 2010  title at the Beauty Crown Theatre, Sanya, China on Saturday evening. Miss Botswana Emma Wareus and Miss Venezuela Adriana Vasini were named first and second runner-up in the Miss World 2010 contest. Miss China and Miss Ireland were the two others among top five finalists in the beauty pageant.

Outgoing Miss World Kaiane Aldorino from Gibraltar placed the tiara on her head and led her to a diamond-shaped throne marking the pageant's 60th anniversary. Alexandria Mills, a high school graduate, from the southern US state of Kentucky, is the first American to win Miss World since 1990.

The 1. 75-metre tall, a professional model listed with the Elite Models agency, Mills impressed the jury with  the motto, "the best things in life are worth waiting for, fighting for, believing in, and just never letting go of" and won the crown of Miss world 2010. The 18-year old Alexandria Mills enjoys travelling, pH*tography, playing the French Horn and percussion.

The glittering evening at the Beauty Crown Theatre in China's Sanya city witnessed an opera performance, melodious symphony of saxophone and group performances by the contestants. The mega event of Miss World 2010 kicked off with a traditional Chinese dance, followed by the introduction of the Miss World contestants from across the globe.

The jury of the Miss World 2010 included former Miss World winners Denise Perrier Lanfranchi (1953), Ann Sidney (1964), Mary Stvin (1977), Agbani Darego (2001) and Maria Julia Mantilla (2004). The Miss World pageant, originated in 1951 by its creator Eric Morley, is the oldest international beauty pageant.

Blue-eyed blonde American teen Alexandria Mills has won the Miss World crest for 2010, beating more than 100 other hopefuls at a glittering observance in south China.

Mills, an 18-year-old from the south US state of Kentucky, wept as outgoing Miss World Kaiane Aldorino of Gibraltar put the tiara on her head and directed her to a diamond-shaped throne assessing the pageants 60th anniversary.

The 1.75-metre attractiveness in white a expert form recorded with the Elite Models bureau signalled to the barracking gathering at the 2000-capacity Beauty Crown Theatre in the holiday resort village of Sanya on Hainan island.

During the two-hour affray, which every year sketches a international TV assembly of about one billion, Mills said her month expended exploring China with the other 114 Miss World hopefuls had made a big impact on her life.

Botswanas Emma Wareus was second, and Venezuelas Adriana Vasini put third in the pageant, which was first held in 1951.

The pageant got off to a colourful start with a presentation by dancers and drummers from Chinas Li ethnic few assembly, who mostly reside on Hainan isle, which was hosting the happening for the fifth time in eight years.

Before the contestants whirled in nationwide costume for the Dances of the World segment, viewers were treated to a video montage of the womens whirlwind trip of China from the Great Wall to the buying malls.

Early very well liked Mariann Birkedal of Norway, recorded by British bookmaker William Hill as the woman to trounce before Mills, completed in the peak seven.

A win for Norway could have initiated a mix in Beijing, where the government is angry that the Oslo-based Nobel managing assembly bestowed this years Nobel Peace Prize to imprisoned Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo.

Aldorino, 24, said she had relished her year as Miss World, saying that in all the nations she had travelled to, one thing had stayed the same: The grin on a childs face, and thats what has apprehended the moment.

The affray emphasises the significance of benevolent humanity work.

Miss Beauty with a Purpose Kenyas Natasha Metto, who has worked on combatting an outbreak of parasitic Jigger fleas in her homeland acquired a fast-track location in the last assembly of 25, but was then eliminated.

Irelands violin-playing Emma Waldron, who won the gifts challenge and completed in the peak five, wowed the assembly by welcome them in Chinese, while Miss China, Xiao Tang, talked mostly in English.

The happening competitors the Miss Universe pageant belongs to by US tycoon Donald Trump, which was won by Mexicos Jimena Navarrete in August.

In 1951, Swedens Kiki Hakansson became the first Miss World. Oscar-winning American player Halle Berry was a finalist in 1986.

Venezuela and India have made the most Miss Worlds, with five titleholders each. Bollywood celebrity Aishwarya Rai took the crest in 1994.

In 2002, the pageant was shifted from Nigeria to Britain after more than 200 persons past away in clashes sparked when a bulletin proposed the Muslim prophet Mohammed would have selected a wife from amidst the contestants had he been alive.
